Alton Towers - Ice Age 4D Advert

Alton Towers has launched a TV advertising campaign for its two new attractions for 2012, Nemesis Sub-Terra and Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs – The 4-D Experience.

Both new additions are due to open on March 24, 2012, at the start of Alton Towers’ 2012 season. The TV advert, embedded above, feature the In the Hall of The Mountain King tune that has accompanied many promotional campaigns for the park in the past, and a limited amount of teaser footage for the attractions.

Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs – The 4-D Experience will be aimed at a younger audience, and will be hosted in the Cloud Cuckoo Land Theatre. The film is based on updated footage from the third film in the Ice Age trilogy, and will be the centrepiece of a small new sub-land.

Alton Towers - Ice Age Weekend

Alton Towers will host a special Ice Age weekend on March 2-3, 2012, as it gears up for the debut of its new Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs – The 4-D Experience attraction.

Guests staying at the Alton Towers Hotel and the Splash Landings Hotel will be able to meet characters from the Ice Age movies, including Sid and Scrat. They will also be able to the watch the movie trilogy in the Alton Towers Resort cinema, with a number of other themed activities also planned.

The opening date of Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs – The 4-D Experience will not take place until March 24, 2012. It will replace the outgoing Go!Go!Go! Show in the Cloud Cuckoo Land Theatre, and is based on updated footage from the third film in the trilogy. A fourth will be released in July.

The new 4D attraction will be the centrepiece of a new Ice Age-themed area, which will also host a shop selling branded merchandise.

Universal Orlando is transforming what is already one of the most amazing attraction experiences ever created into what will feel like an all-new adventure. The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man will soon feature all-new, 4K digital high-definition animation, new high tech 3D glasses and upgrades to the set, audio and lighting systems. Above are just some of the brand new art renderings which will feature in the all-new attraction opening in March 2012.

They all look incredible, I am positive this will make this ride the number one attraction at Universal Studios!

The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man Upgrade - Opening March 2012

Universal Orlando is transforming what is already one of the most amazing attraction experiences ever created into what will feel like an all-new adventure. The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man will soon feature all-new, 4K digital high-definition animation, new high tech 3D glasses and upgrades to the set, audio and lighting systems. The re-animation of the ride film will include an entirely new level of detail for guests to discover, including a cameo by legendary comic book icon and Spider-Man co-creator, Stan Lee. The entrance will also be upgraded at the same time!

Captain EO - Disneyland Paris

I reported earlier that Captain EO is facing the chopping block at Disneyland California, but it seems that the strange, and mysterious 4D attraction has the same fate at Disneyland Paris as well. The latest Closure & Refurbishment dates for the parks now show the Discoveryland attraction marked as closed on weekdays for the first three weeks of October: 3rd to 7th, 10th to 14th and 17th to 21st. Those infamous yellow 3-D glasses were also kept out of guests’ hands last week, when EO closed from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd September, suggesting that — rather than simple refurbishment as first expected — a new “peak days only” operating programme could be coming into force.

Michael Jackson and George Lucas fans have already had to contend with some very limited hours for the 3-D theatre show this year, with the first performance of the day held back until 11am and a closing time set far short of the rest of the park at around 5 or 6pm. The return has always been on an indefinite run, but if you’re a particular fan of this “rag-tag band lead by the infamous Captain EO”, you might want to catch an encore next time you can, just in case.

Could it be that Michael Jackson will once again leave Disney across the globe after only returning last year?

Sources have confirmed that Disney are actively going through ideas for a new attraction to replace Captain EO in their park’s 4D Theater. A variety of ideas are being tossed around it seems, many related to one character franchise or another, so it’s too early to lock down any reports on just one idea yet, just know that Disney is aware that the Captain’s popularity has passed once again.
