Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom - Flying Dragon! NEW

Disney has finally unveiled its long-rumored flying, fire-breathing dragon, sending it soaring over the expanded New Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom.

The dragon, which is actually a micro-light aircraft, took to the skies above the park during the media preview event for the updated land. Disney described the stunt as a “special, one-night appearance” for the dragon, but it is expected that it will eventually become a regular fixture at the Magic Kingdom.

Disney has been teasing the new dragon effect via a special Tumblr blog at disneydragons.tumblr.com. The aircraft had previously been spotted undergoing testing, and was originally suspected to be in development for the planned Avatar Land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Disney World’s Magic Kingdom - Celebrate the Magic

“Celebrate the Magic” pays tribute to the artistry and imagination of Disney stories, from beloved classics to contemporary favorites.

As the show begins, Tinker Bell appears to fly around Cinderella Castle, she splashes pixie dust on the castle, transforming it into a spectacular piece of living art. As the pixie dust subsides, guests are taken back to the beginnings of pencil animation, and will see Walt Disney, the original magic maker, drawing Mickey Mouse. With a little magic from Tinker Bell, Walt’s paintbrush flies off the page and comes to life, creating imagery that carries guests away on a fantastic journey.

With this show guests will travel down the rabbit hole with Alice, soar high above the Big Top with Dumbo and visit the African savanna with Simba. This magical adventure even takes you into the worlds of “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Brave,” and the new world of “Wreck-It Ralph.”

As a special treat, “Celebrate the Magic” debuts with a segment of the show created just for the holiday season, featuring the return of the gingerbread castle seen during the original projection show, “The Magic, The Memories and You!”

“Celebrate the Magic” will be presented most evenings at Magic Kingdom Park, beginning this week!

At Magic Kingdom Park, Main Street Bakery will close for refurbishment in January 2013 and reopen as a Starbucks location in early summer. At Epcot, Fountain View will close in March 2013 and reopen as a Starbucks location in midsummer.
Both locations will be designed to fit the theme of their surroundings.
