Aulani Disney Resort - Expansion Plans
This morning, Disney Parks Blog has revealed some details about the upcoming expansion to Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii. A new water feature and two new quick-service restaurants were unveiled by Joe Rohde, Walt Disney Imagineering Senior Vice President, who led the design work on Aulani.
New water features will include a themed family pool, extending literally to the very edge of the resort property and highlighted by a misty grotto from which relaxing swimmers may view the sunset. After dark, a magical starscape of glimmering lights will appear on the grotto ceiling and the floor of the pool.
Near the family pool will be a new kids’ splash zone, designed to resemble tidal pools with some playful surprises for youngsters, including rainbow water jets, images of tidal pool creatures on the pool floors, and hidden Menehune – the legendary little people of the islands – who may be spotted through chinks in the rocks. Additional deck space, chairs, chaises and cabanas will surround these new water features.
Also coming to Aulani will be two new food service locations. One of these, located adjacent to the new water play area, will serve continental breakfast and offer a lunch and dinner menu with a selection of sandwiches, salads and snacks that can be enjoyed in the adjoining outdoor patio, which provides a beautiful ocean view. A second quick-service eatery will be located beachside, offering grab-and-go snacks and easy access for beachgoers.
Work on these enhancements will begin in September and conclude in mid-2013, coinciding with the final build-out of the resort. Along with the water play and dining additions, the expansion will provide a new, larger lawn location for events, weddings and the guest-favorite nighttime Starlit Hui show. There will also be additional merchandise space – to provide guests with a greater variety of Aulani products, apparel and memories – and a protective awning over the patio of Makahiki restaurant, home of “Aunty’s Breakfast Celebration,” featuring breakfast with Disney characters.

Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom - Fantasyland Expansion UPDATE

The latest in a series of additions to Fantasyland at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, the Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak water play area, is now open.

The new attraction is themed to resemble the circus seen in Dumbo, and sits close to the Dumbo the Flying Elephant attraction. Children can splash among model animals that squirt water at them, in an area that is likely to prove popular on hot summer days in Florida.

Disneyland California - Cars Land Opening Ceremony (FULL Video)

This is a video wrap-up of the Grand Reopening celebration at Disney California Adventure for Cars Land which took place on June 13, 2012 at 8:00pm as a live streaming event. It includes some speeches by Bob Iger, Tom Staggs and John Lasseter, as well as the grand opening of Cars Land where Tom and John “flip the switch” to light up Cars Land. Cars Land has been a long time coming and I feel that California Adventure is now a park Walt himself would be proud of!

Disneyland Paris - New Statues arrive for World of Disney Store

@Disney_ParisEN

 Disneyland Paris this week shared photos of two important arrivals for the new World of Disney Store, all the way from New York City: Mickey and Minnie Mouse!

These two statues, which now sit either side of the main World of Disney entrance in Paris, were salvaged from the marquee of the former World of Disney store on Fifth Avenue in New York, which closed on 31st December 2009.

You can see where these statues will go in the new concept artwork that I posted earlier this week, by clicking here

Walt Disney World - Art of Animation Resort UPDATE

Walt Disney World has released images showing off the planned appearance of the Cars wing at the under-construction Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.

The wing will be the second to open at the resort, on June 18, 2012. Inspired by Pixar’s Carsmovies, it will be based around a recreation of the fictional town of Radiator Springs. Eleven life-sized models of characters from the film will be featured in the area, including Lightning McQueen, Flo, Mater, Fillmore, Luigi, Guido, Ramone, Sheriff, Doc, Sally and Sarge.

The first wing to open at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will be the Finding Nemo wing, which is due to host its first guests on May 31, 2012. Two further wings, based on The Lion King and The Little Mermaid, will open on August 10 and September 15 respectively.
